Preliminary Research Continuity

Continuity is the consistency of plot, people, places, events throughout a story to make it understandable for the viewers. It helps the viewers to see changes in time and just to follow on with whats happening. Sometimes continuty errors will occur ranging from small things like the volume of liquid in someones glass or to much more glaring things such as sudden changes in appearance or large skips in time. For example if we see someone taking a train journey but we see them getting on the train and then in the next scene there in a city we as the viewer havn't got a sense of continuity as we only saw him getting on. But to get a sense of continuity you could show 2 or 3 shots of him getting on the train, sitting reading a paper, then sleeping in the same seat in another shot and then finally seeing him get off the train. As the audiance we can then assume the story has progressed.

This video above is an example of a continuity error within the film Munich, the guy is shot an falls forward, then after the scene of them fleeing the scene we see he is lying on his back, you could assume they moved him but the fact they ran away from the scene straight after judging by the shots suggest they hadn't and that this an error.
