The 180 degree rule is a guidline in film making that states the camera should be placed somewhere inside 180 degrees on a particular side of an invisible line of a shot containing 2 people. This rule is usualy followed to not confuse the audiance as if it is broken it could give the impression that the two people are switching places. Although some people do break it intentionally for effect.
